Wow, I can’t believe it! At this time in the year we are all expecting to be relaxing watching the best Basketball Players in College go toe to toe until there is but one last team standing. Yeah, great you say especially if your team didn’t make it past the first round! There are good teams, bad teams, and great teams. There in case comes along a team that by looking at them are not Too Big in stature compared to other teams, some have commented on their height plenty of times to make even me feel good.
So, let’s look at what’s going on with that team. Guards, the entire Lot of them and one center at least that’s what I’ve been told. I do not pressume to know the game of Basketball to save my life and much less to play it. Suffice to say that I ended up with a broken thumb while playing a pick up game while protecting my face from a pass. Oh well. Now, back to the Illini! Great team? Perhaps. Fast, definitely.

Well, how do we garnish such great movements if we spend most of our time lounging on our behinds on the bikes, gingerly pedalling under 70 spm, working out on the X-Trainer under 50 spm all the while goose-necking the tv or magazine in front of you. Oh, and don’t get me started on the Dreadmill Workouts!!! Arrgghh!! Most of you are so accustomed to the typical 4.5 speed setting to begin your runs! Okay, most people start running at 4.0!! For goodness sakes people!! Get going!!
Many of you complain that you just CAN’T seem to be getting faster and that you’ve plateaued. Really? Well, if I were to take apart your routine I will get down to the factor of your plateau. I’m not trying to be mean, just honest and you do need someone telling you the truth.
Listen, if getting fast is what you want then you MUST GO FAST! Training in mediocre amounts results in mediocre outcomes. It’s easy: Garbage in and you get Garbage out! There was an article written in Runner’s World on Speed Training quoting Coach Sam Bell of the University of Indiana.
If you believe that you can, then you will. If you say that you can’t, then you don’t. Simple math, 1 plus 1 equals = 2. Don’t short cut your potential by insisting that it CAN’T be Done!
Remember, there is no such thing as I CAN’T!
